Developing your understanding
There are a number of technical aspects to outcome based approaches and the language that people in the regeneration industry use is not always straightforward. This section provides background and reference information, to guide practitioners for a better understanding of the approach.
The section on Understanding the language explains how inputs, outputs and outcomes relate to each other, and why they are so important. A glossary defines the key terms such as:
• Outcomes
• Outputs
• Inputs
• Targets
The glossary is also available as a stand alone document which you can print off and have as a handy reference. ‘A glossary for Regeneration Outcomes’.
The Policy Context is also important because it explains why outcome based approaches are being used. It includes links to external websites for:
• Closing the Opportunity Gap, the national priorities for Community Regeneration
There are also a range of skills that regeneration practitioners will find useful to develop. These are discussed further in the Skills section.
Useful research and publications that discuss different aspects of outcome based approaches are highlighted.
