How to Select Outcomes

You should think carefully about choosing outcomes and indicators. First of all you need to be clear about what is meant by an ‘outcome’, and the Understanding the language section may clarify this.

Consider carefully what indicators to use to show progress towards an outcome. The section on Choosing outcomes and indicators provides guidance on how to identify appropriate outcomes and what makes a good indicator.

The section on Setting baselines suggests steps that you may need to take in setting baselines for both outcomes and outputs. It also leads to information on Baseline Data and Local Surveys.

The Hints and tips also provide some useful suggestions on how to select outcomes.
