Hints and Tips – how to track progress
• Ensure early on that service providers know what you expect of them, what monitoring information they need to collect, and when they should report back.
• Be sure that all concerned understand the difference between output monitoring and outcome monitoring.
• Explore with partners what they consider to be appropriate action if they cannot meet the outputs.
• Discuss early on what obstacles they may face in delivery and what impacts this might have on targets.
• Clarify when different sources of information become available for outcome monitoring, so that you can identify progress towards outcomes as early as possible. This also means that you can investigate promptly if progress is not as anticipated, and identify and resolve the reasons for the lack of progress.
